Old Bayfield City Jail

Bayfield’s historic city jail, a 25 x 25 foot stone building, offers a glimpse of the old days and of the rascals who made amends in the “hoosegow.” This video includes an interview with Bumpy Sense, son of Officer Herman Sense who worked in this old jail in the 1920’s – 30’s. Enjoy old photographs and glimpse inside of this charming historic site. The Bayfield Heritage Association led a fundraising effort in 2019 to restore and preserve this National Historic structure for generations to come.
