Lost Formations of the Apostle Islands

This virtual exhibit displays historic postcard images of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on the south shore of Lake Superior. The postcards used in this exhibit are from the permanent collection housed in the Pike Research Center at the Bayfield Heritage Association in Bayfield, WI. All images used are turn of the 20th century vintage. The narrative accompanying the exhibit is taken from an 1895 newspaper article written by the Editor of the Ashland Press, Sam Fifield, entitled “Beautiful Isles of the Chequamegon.”
