Ace Fireballers – Early Bayfield Baseball – Part 1
Baseball was all the rage in 1878 Bayfield. The Harbor City’s fast-ball players formed teams and participated with passion in the local “Town Ball” action. Fans cheered fervently and announced their views on it all as rookie commentators. Who were the players, the stars? Where did the “fasts” play? What did the town think of them, and how did this great age of Bayfield baseball come to an end? With box scores and press releases gleaned from Bayfield Press and Bayfield County Press newspaper archives, BHA Historian Bob Nelson umpires this session and introduces the modern baseball fan to this national pastime’s good old days.
