Amorin Mello joined us for a fun afternoon of exploring maps and stories about Ancient Trails and Ghost Towns before the City of Washburn was founded in 1883.
Around 2010 Amorin Mello became interested in local history by listening to Bad River oral histories about land speculators following the 1854 Treaty of La Pointe, and around 2013 began mapping old documents to find evidence of Bad River’s oral history. He quickly found that those same documents also reveal a wealth of pre-1883 Washburn history that has never before been told until now.
