Guiding Visitors

There are many opportunities including welcoming museum visitors, being a docent and helping with events hosted or sponsored by the museum. No prior experience is necessary. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work. Volunteers working on a fundraising cruise

Research & Archiving

BHA has one of the largest local history archives in the area. We received hundreds of new photos and items each year, all of which are cataloged and inventoried in the Past Perfect museum system.

We need volunteers to scan and enter photographs as well as other materials and objects into our digital archive collection. We also need volunteers to help with research requests. Previous experience is great but we will train you if you have never done anything like this before.

It's a great way to immerse yourself in the history of the area while meeting new friends at the same time.

Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work.

Presenting
History needs to be shared! We host monthly programs through our John Matthew Black Program Series. These programs are free to the public and provide a rich look at our area's history. Do you have stories, photos and knowledge about area history? We would love to talk with you about creating a presentation. Contact us if you are interested in creating and presenting a program. Writing
Do you love to write? Well, we need writers to create a variety of content including articles for our quarterly newsletter, blog posts for our website, social media posts and much more.

Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work.

Photography
Much of our historic "story" is told through photographs. We need volunteer photographers for object archival work, event capture and other tasks. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work.
Teaching
At BHA, we are all about life-long learning. If teaching is a passion of yours, we need volunteers to lead various activities. These activities include educational tours for museum visitors and school children as well as training museum volunteers. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work.
Gardening or Lawn Care
Join our "Wednesday Weeders" at Fountain Garden Park located at the south entrance to Bayfield on State Highway 13. Fountain Garden Park was purchased in 1990 by Mary Rice and Jerry & Mary Phillips to preserve this focal corner of our historic city. The park, dedicated in 1996, combines Bayfield’s rich heritage as a horticultural area and its 19th-century reputation as the "Fountain City." It is a beautiful tribute that the Bayfield Heritage Association’s dedicated ‘Wednesday Weeder’ volunteers have proudly maintained over the years. Contact Marilyn Van Sant if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work.

Cooking & Baking
Do you love to cook and bake? Well, we love to have refreshments for our various community events and programs!

Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for this type of work.

Leadership
Like most non-profit organizations, we have a volunteer Board of Directors working on a variety of tasks and projects. We are always looking for people to join our Board who are passionate about Bayfield and its history, people who will be good stewards of BHA as we expand and grow into the future.

Contact us if you are interested in exploring becoming a member of our Board.

There are many fascinating documents, photographs, and objects entrusted to BHA’s archive which need to be entered into our database, to ensure future researchers can access these resources.
